The Dovey Estuary provides a wide variety of challenging racing conditions. Tidal factors often come into play in the estuary confines, honing the tactics of the racing sailor and certain races are held over the ' 'bar' (sandbar) where there is less tidal influence and unlimited space.

We have put together a packed program of racing for the 2023season modified to suit the conditions. Racing is varied from handicap club fleets, to one design cups and junior series. Whatever your boat, there will be many races you can take part in. The regatta season is centred around the Dovey fortnight which traditionally happens the last week in July and the first week in August. Racing happens throughout the week with three races a day and many social events in the evening.

Another big week is the Laser/Solo/GP14 week for senior entries and the Topper week for juniors. This week is an Open Week and attracts entries from all over the country. It begins with the Open Day on the Sunday which is a regatta series in itself and the week that follows comprises a race a day towards overall regatta prize.

There are also many weekend events and series throughout the summer months from Easter through to October, so keep an eye on this website for all the news, forthcoming events and race results.

*Racing over the bar is limited to those of 14 years of age and over. For those who are 14 and 15, a formal application will need to be made by their parents which will then need approval from the Commodore or Sailing Secretary before that person is allowed to race over the bar. If the race officer on a given day believes it is too dangerous for under 16's to race over the bar, they have right to refuse an entry even if the person concerned has general consent.
